Linda Vista

Street trees will be planted with a Federal grant!

The City of San Diego was awarded a $10,000,000 grant from the USDA Forest Service, for establishing trees in six areas, and one of these is the Linda Vista community. The project, Ready, Set, Grow! focuses on tree equity and increasing tree canopy in unserved communities.  You can help ensure these trees will grow to provide many benefits to Linda Vista  by helping decide where these trees will be planted. Map highlighting the Linda Vista community and surrounding areas in San Diego, marking boundaries for tree planting.
This map shows areas where trees can be planted, in this grant. The eligible census tracts are numbered (in the scope of work): 6073008600 and 6073008800.

What can you do?

Two census blocks have been identified as the primary recipients of city street trees through this particular grant. If your residence is located between Genesee Ave, the 163, and Ulric St, you are eligible to have the city plant a street tree in front of your house. These trees will be watered on a regular schedule for three years after planting, and will be replaced by the city if they die before the grant ends in May 2028.

We are gathering your input for future projects. It would be great to have more trees to provide shade, clean air, noise reduction, and overall curb appeal. We would like to know the locations YOU want to see trees in Linda Vista!

Some spots are better for supporting the healthy growth of a tree than others! Tree roots require access to water even after the first three years. Sites that already have irrigation, like parks or the edge of well-maintained lawns, will have a higher chance of growing a healthy tree.

If you would like a city-watered street tree in front of your residence or in a community area in which you frequent, please fill out the google form on this webpage. We will compile your responses and send them to the City of San Diego so that Linda Vista residents can advocate for the locations of trees growing in their community.

Community members can help in different ways.
